Founder Kim Woo-choong
Born in Daegu in 1936, Kim Woo Choong grew up with curiosity about wider world and a strong pioneering spirit. In 1967, at the age of 30, he founded the Daewoo Group and ventured into domestic and international markets under the vision of “global management,” opening new paths for Korea’s economic development.

His interests, however, extended far beyond corporate management. He believed that sustained national growth required nurturing people as much as growing the economy, and he emphasized the importance of structured support for education, scholarship, culture, and welfare.

With this conviction, he established the Daewoo Foundation in 1978 through a personal endowment of KRW 5 billion.
